The Evolution of Thrilla Gives: From a Boxing Night to a Community Movement!

In 1991, Tony Rubino laced up his running shoes for a cause greater than himself - raising funds for multiple sclerosis. Little did he know, this was the beginning of an inspiring journey that would significantly impact countless lives. This act of commitment grew into a vibrant, annual event that would become known as Thrilla at the Villa.

For twenty transformative years, Thrilla at the Villa was an unforgettable night of camaraderie and compassion, mixing the sizzle of steaks, the thrill of boxing, and the rich aroma of cigars. It was here where community spirit thrived and the heart of giving pulsated, raising nearly $2.3 million for numerous charities. As the event evolved, it became about much more than just boxing and good company. High-end auctions, Golden Glove boxing matches, captivating live entertainment, and compelling stories of resilience and hope became the event's hallmark. It united local businesses, politicians, and citizens alike, their shared purpose fueling a profound impact on our community.

Yet, the spirit of innovation that underpinned Thrilla at the Villa remained restless. The drive to do more, reach more, and impact more led to a transformative rebranding: Thrilla at the Villa became Thrilla Gives. Embracing our mission of "Giving back to the community and making an impact within our backyard," Thrilla Gives expanded its reach to support a broader array of organizations. Our vision, "One cause, one goal, one community," underlined our dedication to creating a more inclusive and compassionate society.

The transition to Thrilla Gives marks an exciting chapter in our journey. With an expanded focus, we now support multiple charitable organizations, including the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Juvenile Diabetes, Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Friends of Foster Kids, and more. Our influence continues to touch countless lives, creating ripples of positive change within our community. At the heart of Thrilla Gives, four core values stand firm - Community, Innovation, Teamwork, and Passion. They serve as the pillars that uphold our commitment to positive transformation and community empowerment. As Thrilla Gives, we owe our continued success to our supportive community – our generous vendors who consistently donate their products and services, our hardworking volunteers, and each community member who contributes to our cause. We remain profoundly grateful for the collective spirit that has fueled our journey thus far, and we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

At Thrilla Gives, we believe in the power of unity, the strength of a shared cause, and the profound impact we can make within our own backyard. We invite you to join us as we continue this remarkable journey, championing positive change within our community, one event at a time.
